Platinum Jubilee of Pir Panjal Brigade’s historic landing in Srinagar celebrated

Boniyar October 27 (KNS): In a momentous ceremony, the Nation paid homage to the gallant soldiers of the Indian Army (Pir Panjal Brigade, later part of Dagger Division, Baramulla) who’s landing in Srinagar on 27 Oct 1947 marked a turning point in the future of the fate of the erstwhile princely state of J & K and of the independent India. The Platinum Jubilee Commemoration, combined with the solemn celebration of Infantry Day, was a testament to the indomitable spirit of the Indian Army and its unwavering commitment to safeguarding India’s sovereignty.


Highlights of the Platinum Jubliee Celebration and Infantry Day Event :
An array of poignant and patriotic activities took place at the Headquarters of Pir Panjal Brigade and Brig Rajinder Singh Memorial in Boniyar, which has now become a symbol of valour and sacrifice. The event was a fitting tribute to the valiant all ranks of Pir Panjal Brigade, Dagger Division and Chinar Corps.

1. Wreath Laying Ceremony : The solemn event began with the Chief Guest of the event General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Baramulla’s Dagger Division, Maj Gen Rajesh Sethi, SM, VSM and Commander of Pir Panjal Brigade, Brig PMS Dhillon paying their respects by laying  wreaths at the Brig Rajinder Singh Memorial & the Pir Panjal Brigade War Memorial. This heartfelt gesture was a reminder of the ultimate sacrifices made by the Brig (Late) Rajinder Singh, MVC & Indian Army soldiers during the 1947-48 Operations.

2. Patriotic Songs by Children of the Brig Rajinder Singh Army Goodwill School : The atmosphere was filled with patriotic fervour as the school children of the Brig Rajinder Singh Army Goodwill School, Boniyar sang moving patriotic songs in memory of the brave soldiers who have sacrificed their lives to secure India’s borders.

3. Interaction with 1947-48 Operation Units’ Representatives : The Chief Guest of the event  had an opportunity to interact with the representatives of the units that participated in the 1947-48 Operations. The first-hand account of the actions of their respective units provided invaluable insights into the challenges and triumphs of that period.

4. Inauguration of Brigade Archives : A significant moment in the celebration was the inauguration of the Pir Panjal Brigade Archives, which will serve as a repository of historical records, photographs, and documents related to the Pir Panjal Brigade's participation in    1947-48, 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars and OP RAKSHAK. This Archives will help preserve the legacy of these brave soldiers for future generations.

5. Screening of a Short Film on the 1947-48 Operations : A captivating short film documenting the heroic actions and sacrifices of the Pir Panjal Brigade during the 1947-48 Operations was screened at the Archives. The audience was moved by the bravery and determination displayed by these soldiers in the face of adversity.

6. Unveiling of ‘Hajipir Capture’ Mural : GOC Dagger Division also unveiled the mural of the "Capture of Hajipir Pass." This mural serves as a visual tribute to the exceptional achievements of the Pir Panjal Brigade during the Indo-Pak war of 1947-48 & 1965.
