Srinagar, Jul 12 (KNS): The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday held a preparatory meeting in Khag area of central Kashmir's Budgam district to mobilise workers for the party's upcoming foundation day celebrations and welcomed several political activists into its fold.
The meeting was chaired by PDP's Khansahib constituency in-charge, Manzoor Ahmad Wani, and attended by the party's media coordinator Bashir Ahmad Beigh, former District Development Council (DDC) member and district organiser Molvi Nisar Ahmad, office-bearers of the women's and youth wings, block and zonal functionaries, and senior workers.
According to the party, several political activists from different parties joined the PDP during the meeting. The new entrants were welcomed by Wani, Beigh and Nisar Ahmad, who urged them to work for the welfare of the people under the leadership of PDP president and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti.

Addressing the gathering, the party leaders highlighted the developmental works undertaken in Khag during the PDP-led government, particularly in the sectors of health, roads, agriculture and revenue.
Beigh also appealed to people, civil society members and political groups to support the demand for a separate Assembly constituency for Khag in the proposed nationwide delimitation exercise, claiming that the area has nearly 50,000 voters and deserves independent political representation.
The leaders also called upon party workers to ensure maximum public participation in the PDP's foundation day programmes, the party said.(KNS).
