PDP expresses concern over stopping additional ration to people in J&K

Srinagar October 24 (KNS): PDP Additional spokesperson Rouf Bhat has expressed serious concern on stopping additional ration to the people in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS),Bhat said the decision is ill through out and arbitrary as it will deprive people of Jammu and Kashmir of staple food.

He said that administration has stopped additional 35 kgs of rice and atta to the people of Jammu and Kashmir which was started by PDP government in 2016 as Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Food Entitlement Scheme (MMSFES) to supplement the National Food Security Act (NFSA) to support marginalized, disadvantaged and other sections of the society.

He said under this scheme, all those persons who are covered under public distribution system would get additional quota of 35 kgs of ration per family  at the subsidized rate of Rs 13 per kg for Atta and Rs 15 per kg for Rice and the State Government would bear the financial burden.

He said the scheme was formulated in sucha a that there was uniform scale of rations for all areas and food preferences of consumers were taken care of.

Rouf Bhat said that anti-people decisions can be taken by only those administrators who don't have concern for the welfare and life of the people.

He said the stopping ration will impact people across Jammu and Kashmir as they are grappling with financial distress post covid situation. On one side the economy is being systematically destroyed, unemployment rising to unprecedented levels, prices skyrocketing, fruit and traditional industries crashing and on the other hand the government now even snatched food from the plate of the poor and disadvantaged. In such crisis a sensitive administration should have reached out with more relief to the poor but the opposite is being done in continuous efforts to force them to hold a begging bowl.

He said the administration should have lend a helping hand to people instead it is taking anti-people decisions which will harm their living.(KNS)
