Pahalgam Shivers at Minus 11.9°C as Cold Spell Grips Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 05 (KNS): Following a significant snowfall this season, temperatures dropped below freezing in Kashmir valley and most parts of Jammu division on Monday.


Srinagar recorded a low of minus 0.4°C, normal for this time of year. Qazigund saw a minimum of minus 1.4°C, slightly above normal. Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 11.9°C, well above normal.

 Kokernag recorded a minimum of minus 3.3°C, below normal. Kupwara town recorded a low of minus 0.9°C, slightly above normal. Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 10.0°C, above normal.

Jammu recorded a minimum of 5.2°C, above normal. Banihal recorded a low of minus 3.2°C, Batote minus 0.4°C, and Bhaderwah 1.8°C. The forecast indicates dry weather from February 6-13.

As the 40-day harsh winter period 'Chillai-Kalan' ended on January 29, Kashmir is currently in the 20-day-long winter period called 'Chillai-Khurd,' ending on February 19, followed by a 10-day-long 'Chillai-Bachha' from February 20 to March 1.

Meanwhile, officials said that traffic movement on the national highway connecting the valley was restored, and flight operations resumed at Srinagar International Airport on Monday.(KNS).
