Srinagar, Jan 15 (KNS): Pahalgam, known for its scenic beauty, has witnessed an unprecedented weather occurrence as it recorded its highest-ever January temperature in history.

"At 14.1°C, today's temperature surpasses the previous record of 13.8°C set on January 14, 2018. This substantial deviation from the norm, with temperatures 10.0°C above average, is comparable to what the region typically experiences toward the end of March," an official told the Kashmir News Service (KNS).

Meanwhile, the Director of the Meteorological Department, Dr. Mukhtar, on Monday said that between January 20 and 21, there are indications of cloudy weather and light snowfall in hilly regions.

However, he noted a potential change in weather from January 24 onwards, suggesting the likelihood of snowfall in the Kashmir Valley.

Mukhtar, highlighted that the current dry winter in Kashmir is not unprecedented, citing similar situations in 2014, 2015, and 2017.

He mentioned the potential for light snowfall in far-off areas of Central and North Kashmir's Baramulla district on January 16 and 17.

It's noteworthy that many plains in the valley have not received any snow, while the upper reaches experienced less snowfall than usual this winter.(KNS)
