Bulk oxygen cylinders and concentrators available to meet additional demand

KUPWARA, MAY 19 (KNS): Sub District Hospital, Kupwara, situated in the heart of Kupwara town has been functioning as a COVID designated hospital since the second wave of COVID started, last month and is providing treatment to the people affected by the deadly infection.

District Administration headed by Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara along with a team of senior doctors are putting strenuous efforts to ensure all possible facilities are in place at the COVID Hospital. The Hospital initially started with of 100 beds and 30 more beds have been added to further build up its bed capacity.

The Nodal Officer, Covid Hospital Kupwara, Dr Abdul Gani Dar said,” Sub District Hospital, Kupwara is  a 100 bedded hospital but in view of the surge in COVID cases we have increased its bed strength to 130

“We have almost 93 COVID patients admitted in the hospital and on a routine, we receive 15 patients on daily basis and an equal number of patients are discharged after recovery”, informed Dr Gani.

Regarded the availability of oxygen,  the Nodal Officer said,” The Oxygen plant recently installed in the Hospital provides 1000 litres of oxygen per minute and we further augment the continuous flow of O2 to the COVID patients through bulk oxygen cylinders and oxygen concentrators”.

Giving details, Dr Gani said that presently, 140 bulk cylinders and 150 medium size cylinders are available in the Hospital.

He said,” another facility of 50 beds for COVID patients will start in a span of 2 days at SDH Langate which will be backed by High flow Oxygen Concentrators of 10 litres per minute. 25 such concentrators have been received yesterday and rest are arriving shortly from Directorate of Health Services (DHS), Kashmir and mild to moderately sick patients can be admitted there”.

Dr Gani informed that presently there is no shortage of beds and after assessing the situation many more health facilities with adequate bed strength will be established to tackle any situation that may due to more rise in COVID patients who need hospital admission.

Regarding the diet facility, the Nodal Officer said that nutrition and a balanced diet is being provided to the patients from the hospital canteen. The Patients admitted in the COVID Hospital Kupwara are expressing satisfaction over the facilities being provided in the Hospital Administration, he added.

Dr Ajaz from COVID Hospital Kupwara said that doctors and paramedics are on their toes to facilitate the COVID patients who are either in-home Isolation or in hospitals. He appealed to general people to support the COVID warriors by strictly following COVID appropriate behaviour and other SOPs. He said avoiding unnecessary travel and wearing of masks and using sanitizers and vaccination are the best tools to break the chain.(KNS)
