An official told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) the operations were launched in Srinagar, Anantnag, Baramulla, Budgam, Shopian, Ganderbal, Pulwama, Kulgam, Bandipora and Kupwara based on specific intelligence inputs to dismantle terror support networks providing logistical, financial and shelter assistance to militant outfits, he said.

 

Official sources said nearly 700 persons were detained in Srinagar for questioning, while over 100 were picked up from Ganderbal. Similar raids were conducted in the southern districts of Anantnag, Shopian and Kulgam, besides northern and central districts of the Valley, taking the total detentions to over 2,500.

 

"The detained persons are being questioned to ascertain their involvement, if any, in anti-national activities," a senior police officer said, adding that the exercise was both "investigative and preventive" in nature.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

 

The raids were carried out simultaneously at multiple locations to gather evidence and thwart any attempts by terrorists and their associates to carry out further unlawful activities, officials said.

 

Police said the crackdown was carried out in close coordination with other security and intelligence agencies. "Such intelligence-led operations will continue to eliminate the terror ecosystem and ensure the safety of citizens," an official said.

 

Meanwhile, Security has been tightened across the Valley, particularly on the national highway, with intensified vehicle checking at multiple points along NH-44 and enhanced deployment at vulnerable locations. Security personnel are conducting round-the-clock surveillance and random frisking of suspicious vehicles and individuals, officials said. (KNS)
