Srinagar Mar 18 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Monday asked people to seize the occasion and vote in huge numbers in the upcoming parliamentary elections and send a clear message that people of J&K will never accept GoI's action of 5th August, 2019.

This he said while addressing a commemorative function organized on the occasion of the death anniversary of the party's senior leader and former Legislative Assembly Speaker Wali Muhammad Itoo at Damhal Hanjipura today.

The function was organised by Senior leader and state secretary Sakina Itoo. General Secretary Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar, Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, Senior Leaders Mian Altaf Ahmed, Justice (Retd) Hasnain Masoudi, State Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar also addressed the gathering.A

Political Advisor to VP Mudassar Shahmiri, South zone president Syed Tauqeer Ahmad, district presidents Altaf Ahmad Wani, Pulwama Ghulam Mohiuddin Mir, Showkat Hussain Ganai, party leaders Abdul Majeed Larami, Sheikh Muhammad Rafi, Adv Riaz Khan, Peerzada Feroze, Safdar Ali Khan and Hashim Hussain and other leaders were also present.

The upcoming elections, Omar said, provide us a chance to show our rejection for the actions of 5 August  through which the insignias of our unique identity ,our flag, our Constitution were snatched away. "We should grab this opportunity and  tell the country and the world that those actions are  not acceptable to us and we are ready to fight a long battle for the restoration of what was snatched from us.  These elections lend us an opportunity to secure our  children's future, their scholarships, their jobs; these elections provide us an opportunity to secure our natural resources  for our people."

Referring to the upcoming Parliament elections as semi finals, Omar said that people's heavy participation in these elections will set the stage for the assembly elections. "Typical example of authority sans accountability. Bureaucracy  does not want to part with unbridled powers being enjoyed by it and is hence creating hindrances in the restoration of a democratic Govt in J&K. The people therefore continue to suffer for want of access and lack of accountability on the part of bureaucrats ruling the roost. Once an elected government is in place all the undemocratic decisions taken by these uncrowned kings will be overturned."

Blaming the local administration for obstructing the assembly election, Omar Abdullah said that the Election Commission said in clear words that "all the political parties wanted the assembly election to be held along with the Lok Sabha, but only our officers were the obstacle. Delhi also said that we do not have a security system. If the claims of improvement of conditions, peace, stone pelting and elimination of guns are true, then why so many security arrangements? He said that the fact is that their habits are bad. have gone, they are enjoying the lack of accountability, no one has control over them, the officer who sits in the office rules there. No, the Raj will not be Raj Bhavan's, not Delhi's Raj, but will be the Raj of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The people of Jammu and Kashmir will decide which thing to build where, which project to build where, which land to hand over to whom. Contractors will not come from outside, employees will not come from outside, power and authority will be given to the hands of the people here."

Targeting the BJP and its allies, the National Conference vice-president said that the BJP is under the misconception that it will win seats here by dividing the people. "That is why as per the Dixon Plan, as part of a conspiracy, demarcation of parliamentary seats was done, Rajouri Poonch was cut off from Jammu and merged with South Kashmir. These people are following the British method of "divide and rule", trying to make Kashmiris fight Jammu, Hindus fight Muslims, Paharis fight Gujjars and so on."

He said that BJP and its A team, B team and C team are suffering from another misconception that people will not vote in South Kashmir. "I appeal to the people of South Kashmir to come out of their homes in droves on the day of polling and dispel this misunderstanding of the BJP. People here are well aware of how the BJP has treated the minorities in the rest of the country, how religious freedom is being taken away, and how the CAA is being implemented. Muslims are being discriminated against."

During the gathering, the party leaders paid homage to the late leader Shaheed Advocate Wali Muhammad Itoo (former Assembly Speaker) on his 30th death anniversary and also highlighted his historic public services.(KNS)
