NIT Row: J&K Students Association Calls for Peace, Urges Students to Maintain Calm and Tranquility

Srinagar, Nov 30(KNS):  The Jammu & Kashmir Association strongly condemned a recent slanderous post uploaded by a student of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on social media regarding the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The association stated that such comments are not only disrespectful but also have the potential to disrupt the harmonious fabric of our diverse society.

In a Statement, National Convener of Association Nasir Khuehami said, 'While we condemn the offensive post, we urge everyone to maintain calm and refrain from engaging in any form of violence or retaliation. It is crucial that we address such incidents through dialogue and peaceful means.

Khuehami appreciated the statement of J&K DGP RR Swain, in which he said that J&K Police holds respect for Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) in the highest regard, and under no circumstances will J&K Police let this get hurt. He made it clear that there is no place for those who disrespect each other's religion. Futhermore he assured that, just like J&K Police registered the case immediately, it will bring this to its logical conclusion as well.

He further emphasized the importance of responsible expression, stating, 'In times of such sensitivity, it is crucial for leaders and authorities to guide the community towards peaceful resolutions. I urge students and citizens alike to heed the call for calm, he added.

In response to this incident, the National General Secretary of Association, Ummar Jamal, stated, 'We unequivocally denounce any act that seeks to insult or demean religious figures, especially the revered Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Such behavior goes against the values of tolerance and respect that our society upholds. The Constitution of India envisions tolerance and mutual respect for religions, and any act aimed at insulting religious figures goes against the soul of the constitution.'

'We recognize the importance of freedom of speech but emphasize the need for responsible expression, particularly when it involves religious sentiments. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the honor of Muslims, and Muslims hold him dearer than themselves. Whenever someone speaks slanderously about him, it causes Muslims more pain than corporal punishment does.'

The Association called upon authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly and take appropriate action in accordance with the law. At the same time, it appeals to the community to demonstrate resilience and maturity in dealing with such sensitive issues.

The Association also emphasizes that students from Kashmir valley and outside should desist from any activity attacking the religion and faith of each other. They should not abuse or threaten each other on social media and should maintain an example of communal harmony.(KNS).
