Hakeem Yaseen calls on Governor

Urges him to ensure advance foolproof security arrangements prior to Panchayat polls

Srinagar, Sep 04 (KNS): Chairman PDF and MLA Khansahib Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen today called on the Governor S P Malik and discussed various socio-political and developmental issues confronting the state.
According to the statement issued to KNS, Hakeem Yaseen asked the Governor to ensure foolproof security arrangements in advance in nook and corner of the state before going for local bodies and Panchayat elections.
He said though there cannot be any alternative to the elected Municipal and Panchayat institutions for harmonious and speedy development at gross roots level but the proposed election process should not become the cause of another cycle of senseless civilian killings, given the prevailing grim security situation in the state.
He said apprehensions being expressed by the common people and various political organisations also need to be taken into considerations that holding of local bodies elections, under the present security situation in the state, could escalate civilian killings and political workers under prevailing security conditions.
He asked the Governor to address all the genuine concerns being viewed about holding Panchayat and Municipal elections so that foolproof security arrangements are put in place for the purpose according to the ground feedback.
Hakeem Yaseen also said the Governor to give further impetus to the developmental initiatives in various areas of the state particularly in Kashmir Division where working season is very limited, so that approved works could be completed within the stipulated time. In this connection he referred to the proposed upgradation of the schools adding that this proposal is hanging since long. (KNS)
