Srinagar, Jul 20 (KNS) : Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party Vice President Ghulam Hassan Mir on Monday said the protest march at Jantar Mantar was a step to register the demand for Statehood, even as he termed the move "ill-timed" as it was overshadowed by a massive agitation on the same venue.
Speaking to news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), Mir said his party is keen to get the Statehood and supports every move in this direction. He, however, remarked that the timing of the protest proved counterproductive, as the Jantar Mantar venue was already occupied by a major issue that completely eclipsed the demand for Statehood.

He said the Apni Party has consistently maintained that the restoration of Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir is a matter of dignity and honour for the people, but has advocated for achieving it through dialogue with the Central government rather than through street protests.
Earlier, party chief Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari had termed the National Conference's sit-in at Jantar Mantar a "political gimmick" aimed at diverting public attention from its governance failures. (KNS)
