Srinagar, June 04 (KNS): Sitting MP and former chief minister of J&K, Dr. Farooq Abdullah Sunday said that National Conference is ready to take part in assembly elections whenever it will be held and hinted that party is “considering over alliance” in the upcoming polls in order to throw the party out which is spreading hatred and divide.
“I don’t know about other parties but our party NC is ready to take part in assembly elections whenever it will be held. We are also thinking about alliance in upcoming polls as we have to throw the party out that is leading us towards hatred and divide,” Dr. Farooq Abdullah as per KNS said while dedicating first of its kind hydraulic roller at Shaheed-e-Millat Sports Stadium at Lal Bazar Srinagar.
He said this sports ground was dedicated to youth by Omar Abdullah in past and today youth are using it in a purposeful manner. “I urge youth to take part in sports activities and shine across the world as sport is as important as education,” Dr. Farooq said.
Responding to a query about current prevailing situation in J&K, the former CM Dr. Farooq Abdullah said that J&K has suffered a huge loss in absence of an elected government. “Democracy persists when there is an elected government. The Lieutenant Governor and his advisor cannot look after the whole J&K alone. It is an MLA – an elected representative who can monitor things of his constituency. It is his responsibility to take care of people’s concerns and demands,” he said.
“Afsar Shahi (Bureaucracy) cannot take care of people’s wishes. Therefore it is imperative for the government to announce the schedule and hold assembly elections in J&K,” Dr. Farooq said.
While replying to remarks of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha that past elections were rigged by few political parties for their political benefits, Dr. Farooq said “If their claims were based on facts, why didn’t they approached court for justice”.
About G20 summit, he said that “At least it benefited us that our walls and roads got painted and black topped. However there is a question whether tourists from G20 member countries will visit Kashmir or not? It cannot materialize till situation gets normalize, and situation cannot be on track till two big nations – India and Pakistan – will sit, decide and shape the future of J&K through confabulations”.
Dr. Farooq welcomed government’s move of issuing passport to PDP chief and former CM J&K Mehbooba Mufti. “This is a welcome step. Mehbooba Mufti can move outside India now to perform religious obligations like Haj and Umrah or to participate in world forums to represent J&K” he said.
The former chief minister at the occasion expressed grief over horrific train accident in Balasore Odhisa in which 300 passengers were killed and over 900 injured. “This incident was tragic. Many have lost their lives and many are battling in hospitals in a severely bad condition. The government should investigate the incident how it happened and fix the responsibility”. (KNS)
