Srinagar, Oct 16 (KNS): Even though assembly elections are yet to announced in Jammu and Kashmir, political parties have started seeing break-ups, allegations and counter allegations in Langate constituency of north Kashmir's Kupwara district with grand old party National Conference facing a rebellion in the area after party expelled some local leaders.

On October 5, the party expelled several local leaders for allegedly indulging in anti-party activities and indiscipline. The expelled members included Mohammad Munawar Khawaja , Abdul Quyoom, Ghulam Rasool Mallah, Ghulam Hassan Malik, Master Abdul Ahad.

Locals believe that the recent expulsion of senior members from the party in Langate will add further trouble to the left-out workers to expand the party base.

In Langate constituency NC is divided into two factions, one headed by former IGP Shafqat Watali and another by retired director of State Motor Garage Haji Mohammad Munawar Khawaja.

All eyes are the intervention of party brass to bridged the gap with the expelled party leaders.

Lashing out at NC, Mohammad Munawar Khawaja said that the party has fallen to the conspiracies hatched by some internal leaders to weaken the party in Langate.

He said that, the recent expulsion of seniors members is betrayal with the people who sacrificed their time to expand the footprints of the party in Langate constituency.

Khawaja also questioned party's decision to give command to Shfaqt Watali, who he believes is not resident of Langate, thus can't decide the politics in Langate constituency.

He said that the party high command convened a meeting of Langate constituency presided by Omar Abdullah, where it was decided that Shafqat Watali would be retained at Nawai Subhai in Srinagar and they were told to choose a local representative who can lead party in Langate.

"We had proposed the name of DDC Nutnusa to lead party in Langate. But the expulsion of senior members is contradicting the decision taken in meeting at Nawi-subhai," he said.

He claimed that the lobby he represent is united with him  and they are carrying out political activities and the future course of action will be initiated with the consultation of all senior workers in Lanagte.

Party's provincial president Nasir Sogami said that expulsion was recommended by district committee, which was later initiated by high command and that every member has its own value and influence.

He said that the expelled members were indulging in anti-party activities and Shafqat Watali is not an outsider but from Kupwara district only.

"The decision also lies with party high command, who to keep in party and who to expel," he added. (KNS)
