National Lok Adalat held across Kashmir

SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 11 (KNS): In pursuance to the National Legal Service Authority calendar and under the directions of J&K Legal Services Authority, the National Lok Adalat was held on Saturday across all the districts of Kashmir, by the respective District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs), for amicable settlement of cases of different nature.

The matters placed before the benches included Civil, Criminal Compoundable, Cheque bounce, Bank matters, MACT, Land Compensation, Matrimonial, Electricity and Pre-litigation matters. Further, Pre-litigation matters were taken up, which included PDD matters, bank recovery matters, PHE cases, Social Welfare Schemes, matrimonial disputes, land disputes, BSNL cases, municipality cases and other Government schemes etc.

At Srinagar, under the insightful directions and patronage of The Chief Justice, Justice Tashi Rabstan, who is also the Executive Chairman JK LSA and the guidance of Jawad Ahmad, Chairman DLSA Srinagar, first National Lok Adalat of year 2023, was held today at District Court Complex Srinagar.

The National Lok Adalat was inaugurated by Jawad Ahmad, Principal  District  &  Sessions Judge/Chairman District Legal  Services  Authority, Srinagar at  ADR Centre, (DLSA Srinagar) in presence of all judicial officers posted at District Court Srinagar, Legal Aid Defense Counsels, lawyers, staff members and general public.

On the occasion, Jawad Ahmad distributed some winter kits amongst the Fire affected families and families belonging to marginalized sections of Srinagar, which was arranged by DLSA Srinagar in collaboration with an NGO ELFA International. The list of people affected by devastating fire incidents was got verified by the Office of District Development Commissioner, Srinagar, which were today given relief in the form of winter kits consisting of blankets etc.

Meanwhile, a total of 10 Benches were constituted by DLSA Srinagar for settlement of cases. The constituted benches took up 23576 matters for their amicable settlement, out of which 21133 matters were settled.

Besides, an amount of Rs. 5,5495608 was realized in total in the Lok Adalat settlement. The settlement matters included 52 MACT matters. 

At Anantnag, National Lok-Adalat was today organized in the District Court and other sub-ordinate courts of District Anantnag under the Chairmanship of Suresh Chander Katal, PDJ Anantnag.

A total number of 4301 cases were taken up by 07 benches in the district out of which 3696 cases were settled in the said Lok-Adalat. An amount of Rs, 1,96,07,901 was awarded as settlement amount in all cases including award of Rs. 94, 75,000/- in 08 MACT Cases.  

At Baramulla, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Baramulla in collaboration with Tehsil Legal Service Committees today organised National Lok Adalat under the Chairmanship of Principal District & Sessions Judge Baramulla, Mohammad Yousuf Wani.

At District court Baramulla, 08 benches were constituted by DLSA Baramulla wherein a total 404 different Cases/ matters were taken up in which 216 different Cases/matters were amicably settled. An amount of Rs. 75,36,433 was realised in different cases amicably settled.

Similarly, special Lok Adalats were also organized at Tehsil Legal Service Committees of Pattan, Sopore, Tangmarg, Rafiabad and Uri where the concerned Sub judges presided over the benches for hearing the cases.

At Budgam, under the insightful directions of Justice Tashi Rabstan, Patron in Chief/Executive Chairman, JKLSA and radiant guidance of Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul, Administrative Judge for District Budgam, 1st National Lok Adalat was organized here.

The National Lok Adalat was inaugurated by Mohammad Ashraf Malik-Chairman District Legal Services Authority Budgam, at District Court Complex Budgam.

Each Court had identified cases for the Lok Adalat beforehand and same were placed before 07 different benches constituted by DLSA Budgam for settlement in National Lok Adalat.

A total number of 933 matters were taken up for their amicable settlement, out of which 406 matters were settled. Besides, an amount of Rs. 2,05,03,436 was realized in toto in the settlement.

At Ganderbal, to settle pending and Pre-litigation cases, Chairman District Legal Services Authority (Pr. District & Sessions Judge) Ganderbal, Ritesh Kumar Dubey today inaugurated a day-long National Lok Adalat in presence of Judicial Officers, here.

Chairman DLSA on the occasion threw light on the main object of holding Lok-Adalats and said that it is people’s Adalat which is held in order to ensure fair and speedy justice to the litigants.

He also described resolution of disputes through the Lok-Adalats as cost-effective and providing easy access to justice.

04 Benches were constituted on the occasion for the amicable settlement of cases.

Overall 792 cases were taken up for settlement out of which 741 cases were amicably settled/Compromised on spot. Rs 64,27,920 was awarded as settlement amount in Bank recovery matters, Public Utility matters, 138 NI Act Cases, Civil, MACT Cases and other matters.

At Pulwama, the National Lok Adalat was today organized in District Court Complex Pulwama under the Chairmanship of Naseer Ahmad Dar, Chairman District Legal Service Authority (Pr. District & Sessions Judge) Pulwama.

The National Lok Adalat was inaugurated by the Chairman DLSA Pulwama in presence of all judicial officers & bar members of District Court Pulwama.

A total of 07 benches were constituted that took up 376 cases of different nature out of which 143 cases were amicably settled and an amount of Rs. 25, 25,000 was realized.

At Kulgam, National Lok Adalat was held today in District Court Complex Kulgam, under the chairmanship of Pr.District & Sessions Judge Kulgam, Mohd Ashraf Bhat (Chairman District Legal Services Authority Kulgam). 

The National Lok Adalat was inaugurated by Ld. Chairman District Legal Services Authority in presence of Presiding Officer Fast Track court Kulgam, Chief judicial Magistrate Kulgam and Additional Mobile Magistrate Kulgam.

05 benches were constituted that took up 359 cases were taken up out of which 211 cases were amicably settled. An amount of Rs. 8,41,600 was realized in different cases.

At Shopian, in pursuance of the National Legal Service Authority calendar and under the directions of J&K Legal Services Authority, a National Lok Adalat was organized in premises of District Court Complex Shopian under the Chairmanship of Riyaz-Ul-Haq Mirza, Chairman District Legal Services Authority (Principal District & Session Judge) Shopian.

In the said National Lok Adalat, 03 Benches were constituted by the DLSA.

Total no of 108 Cases related to recovery suits, Traffic Challan, Civil Cases, Matrimonial Cases and Criminal Compoundable cases were taken up, out of which 73 Cases were settled amicably with a settlement amount of Rs.41,77,133.

At Kupwara, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Kupwara today organised a National Lok Adalat across the district during which a total number of 06 benches were constituted for taking up 753 cases of various nature.

Out of the total cases taken up before all the benches in the National Lok Adalat, 417 cases were settled on spot by intervention of the benches and by participation of the lawyers and litigants. The settled cases included cases from MACT and Bank recovery which led to a total settlement of the amount to the tune of Rs.75,17,000.

Lawyers and litigants participating in the National Lok Adalat expressed their joy in early disposal of the cases through mutual settlement and appreciated the arrangements of the Lok Adalat.

          At Bandipora, the National Lok Adalat was organised under the guidance of Chairman District Legal Services Authority and Pr. District and Session Judge Bandipora Amit Sharma.

          A total of 05 benches were constituted for the said Lok Adalat that took up 273 cases out of which 150 cases were settled amicably and Rs 53.64 lakhs were realized as settlement amount.(KNS)
