Srinagar, Jul 26 (KNS): Noted filmmaker, poet, and calligrapher Muzaffar Ali was felicitated by intellectuals at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference's Centre (SKICC), where he called for expanding the State's film festival circuit to include Kargil.
Speaking at the event, Dr M Hamidullah Bhat, former National Director of the National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language and Minority Education, described Ali's contribution to art and culture as "magnitudinal."
"He revolutionised the art of calligraphy by integrating traditional scripts with contemporary computer graphics. He also proposed a fine arts institution in Delhi to preserve calligraphic traditions in Urdu, Arabic, Persian, and Sanskrit," Dr Bhat said.

Ali, known for directing the classic film Umrao Jaan, thanked the gathering for the overwhelming reception and praised the aesthetic appeal of traditional Kashmiri calligraphy.
"Kashmir's traditional calligraphy is attractive. I would like to recast art motifs in important cultural centres here. The State should organise more film festivals, and I desire that Kargil be included in this roadmap," Ali said.
The event was attended by writers, artists, and cultural figures from the Valley. (KNS)
