Sports beneficial for physical and mental health: Ansari

Jammu, Feb 04 (KNS): Minister for Youth Services & Sports, Technical Education and Information Technology, Molvi Imran Raza Ansari Sunday said that the sports is beneficial for our physical health and also positively affects our mental health.
The Minister said this after watching a T-20 friendly cricket match played between MLAs-XI led by Usman Abdul Majid and Media-XI led by Mir Imran here at Government Science College, Ground today. The match was organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Youth Services and Sports Department. Media-XI won the match by 9 wickets.
The Minister was Chief Guest and Deputy Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Nazir Ahmad Gurezi was guest of honour while as MLA Mubarak Gul and Zaffar Choudhary (Media) were special guests on the occasion.
The Minister emphasized the significance of sports promotion at all levels for overall personality development. He said that sports and academics need equal focus as both are vital for shaping the future of youngsters towards a right direction.
Speaking on the occasion Deputy Speaker Assembly, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi said that participation in sports can save our young generation from falling prey to the menace of drugs and added that both politicians and Media fraternity can play vital role in consultation with the parents of younger generation to motivate their wards towards sports and other related constructive activities.
Gurezi stressed on organizing such tournaments in Kashmir during summer to strengthen the relations of politicians and the media fraternity.
Amit Kumar from Media-XI was declared man of the match while as R.S.Pathania was declared best batsman from MLA-XI for contributing 59 runs which include 11 fours and one six. Jagdeep Singh from Media-XI was declared best bowler of the match.
Later, the Minister presented trophies to the winners and runner ups while as mementoes were given to all the participants. (KNS)
