Sopore, Jun 18 (KNS): The Sopore legislator Sopore Irshad Rasool Kar on Thursday inspected the under-construction Water Filtration Plant of the AMRUT Water Supply Scheme at Bagh -e-Islam Krankshown Colony, directed officials to expedite work on the Rs 73.39 crore project.

Accompanied by Superintending Engineer (PHE), Executive Engineer (PHE), and other senior officers of the Jal Shakti Department, MLA Kar reviewed the progress of the scheme and stressed the need for timely completion to ensure a reliable drinking water supply for Sopore town.

"The project is critical to addressing the long-standing water scarcity in the constituency. Officials have been instructed to maintain quality standards and complete the remaining works on priority," MLA Kar told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS).Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

He also directed the department to ensure that the new pipeline network—spanning 100-120 km—effectively resolves supply issues in tail-end areas.

The AMRUT scheme, sanctioned under the central government's urban infrastructure mission, is among 62 such projects currently under execution across the Union Territory, official sources said.

Local residents have long complained of water shortages, particularly during summer months, and the MLA's visit comes amid growing demand for expedited completion of the project. (KNS)
