Srinagar, Aug 5 (KNS): Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Wednesday described August 5 as a "painful reminder" of the abrogation of Article 370, alleging that the Government of India had unilaterally altered the constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a post on X, the Mirwaiz said the decision of August 5, 2019, reneged on constitutional commitments made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and further disempowered them.
He alleged that the changes amounted to a "multi-pronged assault" on the identity, character and rights of the people of the region and had left "another deep wound" on its body politic.

Despite this, the Mirwaiz said the people of Jammu and Kashmir had shown courage and resilience in safeguarding their identity and standing up for their rights.
Expressing hope for the future, he said the Government of India should honour the spirit of "Insaniyat" and "Jamhooriyat" and engage with the people of Jammu and Kashmir with justice, sincerity and respect.(KNS).
