Srinagar, Aug 7 (KNS): Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday claimed that he was placed under house arrest and prevented from offering the congregational Friday prayers and delivering the sermon at the historic Jama Masjid in Srinagar.
In a post on X, Mirwaiz said he was not informed of any reason for the restrictions imposed on his movement.
He alleged that the action came shortly after the Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) raised concerns over the reported sale of pork in Kashmir, and questioned the timing of the restrictions.

"The timing, coming soon after the MMU raised a legitimate concern over the sale of pork in Kashmir, is telling," he said in the post.
Mirwaiz alleged that such "high-handed measures" reflected the shrinking space for raising public and religious concerns in Jammu and Kashmir.
He further said that silencing voices through arrests and restrictions would neither address people's concerns nor prevent them from being expressed. (KNS)
