Mirwaiz again barred from offering Friday prayers: Anjuman Auqaf

Srinagar, June 16 (KNS): Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar has condemned the authorities’ behaviour of keeping its president Mirwaiz Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq under house detention for the past four years.

In a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), the Anjuman said that today is the 199th consecutive Friday when he was not allowed to perform important religious duty of Friday prayer or fulfill his official duties.

It added that due his detention, centuries-old pulpit Jama Masjid also remained silent which otherwise would reverberate.

The Anjuman said that the restriction on the personal and religious freedom of Mirwaiz is the worst violation of human and religious rights, which is not only highly alarming but also against democratic values.

“Those who believe in human, democratic and religious values should raise their voices against it,” it said. (KNS)
