MeT Forecasts Wet Spell for JK from Feb 17-21

 Srinagar, Feb 14(KNS): Several Western Disturbances are expected to impact Jammu and Kashmir and surrounding areas from the afternoon of February 17th onwards, leading to an extended wet spell until the afternoon of February 21st.

An official said that the Kashmir Division is anticipated to experience partly to generally cloudy conditions on February 17th, with the possibility of light snow in isolated higher reaches late at night.

"On February 18th, the region is expected to be generally cloudy with the chance of light to moderate rain or snow in many places. From February 19th to 20th, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain or snow in most areas, with heavy snowfall expected in certain higher reaches during the late afternoon/evening of the 19th to late night of the 20th," he said.

"On February 21st, light to moderate snow is possible in many places until the afternoon, with gradual improvement thereafter. In the Jammu Division, light rain or snow is possible in many places on February 18th. From February 19th to 20th, intermittent light to moderate rain is expected in the plains, accompanied by thunder and lightning, along with light to moderate snowfall in higher reaches, including heavy snowfall in isolated areas," he added.

"On February 21st, light to moderate snow, rain, thunder, and lightning are expected in many places until late afternoon/evening, with gradual improvement thereafter. The weather system may lead to temporary road closures in higher reaches and important passes, such as Sinthan pass, Mughal Road, Sadhna & Razdan pass, and Zojila," he said.

Travelers are advised to plan accordingly, while farmers are advised to withhold irrigation and fertilizer application and drain excess water from orchards and fields. A significant drop in day temperature is also expected during the mentioned period.(KNS).
