Malpractices By Consumer Affairs Officials Should Be Probed by ACB: RTI Movement


Srinagar, July 02 (KNS): Jammu & Kashmir RTI Movement Thursday demanded the Government to order a probe by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) as poor consumers in Sopore area are being supplied ration on exorbitant rates by officials of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS & CA) for the last several years.
According to statement issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Chairman RTI Movement Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat said that after Chadoora the volunteers of RTI Movement exposed another scam in Tarzoo area of Sopore where almost 700 consumers have been provided fake APL / Non Priority Household (NPHH) ration cards while as they are actually under Priority Household (PHH) category also called BPL.
“We have obtained details of more than 100 persons in a one single day and very soon we will get details of the 500 plus consumers from 4 panchayat halqas of Tarzoo who are being looted for last more than 4 years by officials of FCS & CA who sell them rice on exorbitant rates i.e. 5 to 6 times more than the actual price (Rs 15 to 20 instead of Rs 3 / kg)”, said Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat.
According to Mushtaq Ahmad, District Coordination RTI Movement Budgam, “RTI Movement is a small organization and we cannot reach out to all the people and expose malpractices of FCS & CA officials. We spend money from our own pocket and go to village to village and district to district to expose PDS embezzlement. We appeal to the Government to get this matter investigated by ACB as soon as possible. Our volunteers will fully assist the ACB team”.
“RTI Movement has expressed satisfaction over the probe conducted in Loolipora Chadoora on the directions of the Secretary to Government FCS & CA . Around 9 officials have been indicted and RTI Movement demands that all aggrieved should be paid back the money which has been looted from them during last 4 years”, Dr Raja Muzaffar added. (KNS)
