LG Manoj Sinha Denies Land Allocation to Outsiders under PMAY in J&K

Srinagar, July 15 (KNS): Lieutenant Governor, Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha on Saturday categorically stated that no outsiders will be granted land under the Pradhan Mantri's Awas Yojna (PMAY) in the Union Territory.

He said that individuals who have illegally occupied state land and constructed lavish residences have no right to mislead the public. The LG made these remarks during the inauguration of a multipurpose 100-seater cinema hall in Baramulla.

Addressing the gathering at Dak Bunglow Baramulla, the LG highlighted that numerous individuals had approached him claiming eligibility for the PMAY, but lacked the necessary land. In response, the administration conducted a review and decided to allocate 5 malras of land to such families under the PMAY, allowing them to build their own homes. So far, a total of 199,500 homes have been sanctioned for homeless families, including 46,000 families from the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) categories, as well as 2,711 families who do not possess land.

The LG expressed concern over certain individuals misleading the public by asserting that land was being allocated to outsiders. He firmly stated that no land was being given to non-residents in Jammu and Kashmir. While refraining from mentioning any political party or leader by name, the LG called upon those who have unlawfully encroached upon state land and constructed palatial residences with unexplained funding to cease their misleading activities.

During the event, LG Manoj Sinha also inaugurated a 100-seater cinema hall at Maqbool Sherwani Hall in Baramulla. He emphasized that the cinema would not only serve as a source of entertainment but also provide valuable educational and artistic opportunities for the youth, aiding their development in fields such as education and technology.

While seeking support from the people to strengthen peace-building efforts in Jammu and Kashmir, the LG praised the commendable work being carried out by the security forces and police. However, he stressed that the responsibility for contributing towards peace and harmony lies with every single citizen. The LG welcomed suggestions for the prosperity of Jammu and Kashmir but clarified that he would not entertain political recommendations.(KNS)
