Srinagar, Oct 19 (KNS): With the onset of winter rapidly approaching, the government has taken proactive measures to ensure that residents in vulnerable areas of Kashmir valley, receive adequate water and electricity supply during the colder months.

In a recent directive, Deputy Commissioners have been tasked with orchestrating the collaboration of various agencies to effectively address the impending challenges.

One of the top officials in the government told news agency KNS that the move comes as part of the government's commitment to enhancing the quality of life for people residing in regions that are often hardest hit by harsh winter conditions.

The directive recognizes that maintaining consistent water and electricity supply is crucial, not only for residents' daily needs but also for their safety and comfort, the official added.

He said that as the winter's chill settles in, the demand for electricity typically surges due to increased heating requirements.

“Ensuring a steady power supply is, therefore, of utmost importance. Deputy Commissioners have been entrusted with the responsibility of harmonizing the efforts of multiple agencies to guarantee reliable electricity supply during this period. In addition to the electricity supply, water availability is another significant concern in cold regions.

The government is taking steps to ensure that residents have continuous access to clean and safe drinking water throughout the winter season. Deputy Commissioners will play a pivotal role in bringing together relevant agencies to resolve water supply challenges efficiently,” the official said.
The comprehensive plan will involve close monitoring and the swift resolution of issues, both in the field and through regular communications with the public.

The official said that Deputy Commissioners have been advised to engage with local communities, gather firsthand information about problems, and provide timely solutions to alleviate any inconvenience faced by residents.

The directive also emphasizes the need for innovative problem-solving. Deputy Commissioners are encouraged to explore creative solutions to the unique challenges posed by winter conditions in their respective districts.

The government's proactive approach, through the coordinated efforts of Deputy Commissioners and various agencies, reflects a commitment to ensuring a comfortable and secure winter for residents in regions susceptible to extreme weather conditions.

This initiative underscores the government's dedication to providing essential services to its citizens, particularly during the challenging winter months.
However officials said that the LG has also directed for intensifying inspections in all districts to curb the menace of power theft.

Sources said that the top officials have informed the LG about the present status of the power supply and steps being taken to improve and augment the power scenario to ensure adequate power supply to the consumers especially during winters.

Sources said that the LG has also asked them to mobilize staff so that less time gets consumed in the replacement of transformers during the winters and directed for advance dumping of poles and conductors in areas which remain cut off during winters.

Meanwhile sources said that the LG has said that Deputy Commissioners should adopt a people-friendly approach and ensure time-bound delivery of services.

"You must not forget that civil servants are meant to serve the people. You must treat this opportunity to serve the people as a privilege,” the sources quoting LG have said.

Sources said that LG Manoj Sinha has also urged the Deputy Commissioners to explore innovative solutions to problems in their districts, particularly those that they are likely to encounter in the coming winter months.
