Kupwara village reels under darkness as transformer gets damaged thrice in one month 

 

Kupwara, Jan 25 (KNS): In the last one month, transformer of Najar Mohallah in Langate village of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district has got damaged on three occasions, leaving many of households under darkness in this harsh winter.

The locals told news agency KNS that they have been repeatedly demanding upgradation of transformer as it gets damaged every now and then, however, the concerned authorities don't pay heed to their repeated pleas. 

Altaf Ahmad, a local resident said that the village has 63 KV transformer and it gets damaged again and again. “In the past one month the transformer has got on three occasions yet the authorities have failed to upgrade the same.” 

The locals said that the concerned PDD officials have been informed several times about the issue, however, they have failed to take any necessary steps to resolve the issue.

They said that transformer gets damaged due to low capacity and the villagers have to bear the brunt. 

“It is a routine now. We have been repeatedly demanding upgradation of the transformer because it is overloaded but there is not even a whisper by the officials which speaks volumes about the lack of concern to our woes,” they said. 

The villagers said that they are facing immense hardships in the absence of electricity. 

Meanwhile, they appealed to the higher authorities to look into the matter and help resolve their genuine grievances. 

When contacted executive engineer, PDD Handwara told KNS that due usage of excessive electric gadgets the transformers gets damaged. 

He, however, said that as the issue has been brought into his notice, he will look into the matter personally. (KNS)
