Kissan Pakhwada: Horticulture Department Kupwara Organises One Day Kissan Mela

Kupwara, July 20 (KNS): Horticulture Department Kupwara today organised a Kissan Mela cum Awareness camp under the flagship programme, Kissan Pakhwada at Horticulture Complex Handwara. The camp was inaugurated by Dr. Hina Shafi Bhat, Vice Chairperson, JK KVIB, who was Chief Guest on the occasion, in presence of Director Horticulture, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat and Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Handwara, Nazir Ahmad Mir.

Chief Horticulture Officer, Faculty experts from SKUAST Wodoora Campus other concerned officers, PRIs, Progressive farmers and other concerned participated in the Kissan Mela.

On the occasion, the Chief Guest said that the Government has shown a keen interest to maximize the income of farmers by launching of missionary programmes like Kissan Pakhwada. The programme has been focussed with an aim to boost the farmers income by covering them under the ambit of galaxy of farmer welfare schemes, she added.

Director Horticulture said that besides farmers, unemployed educated youth can also register themselves under various developmental schemes to generate their employment.

Speaking on the occasion, the ADC expressed his satisfaction and said that such camps shall prove fruitful in the long run to develop scientific tempo among the farmers of the district.

Different stalls were installed by Sheep Husbandry, Animal Husbandry, Horticulture, Agricultutre, Sericulture and Fisheries Department. These stalls showcased equipment & tools, high breed seeds, besides, providing information regarding various developmental schemes for farmers.

On the occasion, several experts from SKUAST provided awareness to the farmers about various schemes which include Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP), Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna(RKVY), Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchal Yojna(PMKSY), Capital Expenditure(CAPEX), Sub Mission on Agricultural Mechanization(SMAM), Agriculture Technology Management Agency(ATMA), NFSM-TBO, Rural & Urban Plantation Scheme and KCC.

Earlier, the Chief Horticulute Officer gave a detailed account of Horticulture departmental activities carried out in the district.(KNS)
