Kifayat Rizvi chairs review meeting of district Red Cross units of Kashmir

Srinagar, September 24 (KNS): Honorary General Secretary, IRCS-J&K Branch Kifayat. Rizvi today reviewed the functioning of District Red Cross Committees of Kashmir Division.

According to a statement issued to KNS, a meeting of Chairmen of District Red Cross Committees was held today on at Indian Red Cross Society, Headquarters, Red Cross Road, Srinagar. The meeting was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioners of all districts represented Chairmen in the meeting.

"At the outset, Honorary General Secretary praised and commended the District Committees of IRCS for their excellent relief work during the pandemic COVID-19. Distribution of masks, sanitizers/soaps and food kits, bedsheets and other material to COVID Centres has been hallmark of the relief works," it reads.

The District Committees in addition to relief out of their own resources, distributed 44870 pcs of 3-ply masks, 9700 pcs of cloth masks, 11756 pairs of hand gloves, 29000 pcs of soaps and 240 PPE Kits to general public sent by IRCS, J&K UT Headquarters, it said in a statement issued to KNS.

"The Honorary General Secretary after commending the job done, impressed upon the District Committees to not only to continue to help poor and distressed segment of Society but to enhance its reach and coverage in every corner of the districts. It was impressed upon during the meeting to make District Committees more vibrant by way of constituting District Executive Committee with full membership and participation of Civil Society," it added.

"It was felt in the meeting that though District Red Cross Committees are doing commendable job in relief front but have ignored other aspects of Red Cross Movement. Junior & Youth Red Cross, to which great importance is attached countrywide, is being ignored at District and Regional Level in J&K. Hence, District Committees were asked to prioritize Junior & Youth Red Cross, so that youth and students fully participate in the Socio-Economic activities at District & Regional Level. Likewise districts were asked to organize blood donation and medical camps at block Headquarters on large scale. District Committees were asked to interact with Civil Society and involve them in Red Cross activities," statement reads.

The meeting was attended by Honorary Treasurer, IRCS-J&K, G.A. Qureshi, Honorary Secretary, IRCS-Kashmir Division, M.Y. Zargar, ADC Budgam, Dr. Nasir Ahmad, ADC Srinagar, Dr. Syed Haneef Balkhi, ADC Shopian, Dr. Abdul Aziz Sheikh, ADC Pulwama, Altaf Ah. Khan, ADC Anantnag, Gh. Hassan Sheikh, ADC Ganderbal, Farooq Ahmad, ADDC Kulgam, R.A. Sofi and other officers of IRCS-J&K, Srinagar were present in the meeting.(KNS)
