Karnah, Jun 15 (KNS); Shamsun Nisa (74), mother of noted Pahari writer Iftikhar Qureshi and grandmother of journalist Zubair Qureshi, passed away in a road accident in Kupwara district on Sunday evening, officials said.
The last rites were performed on Monday at Baghbella, Karnah, with thousands of people attending the funeral prayers. She was later laid to rest in the ancestral graveyard there.
Former MLAs Kafil-ur-Rehman and Raja Manzoor were among several prominent personalities who attended the funeral.
Various journalist bodies expressed grief over the demise and conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, the Pahari Tribal Employees Welfare Forum (PTEWF) expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended sympathies to Iftikhar Qureshi and his family.

Meanwhile, Kashmir News Service (KNS) Editor-in-Chief Mohd Aslam expressed profound grief over the demise of Shamsun Nisa, grandmother of journalist Zubair Qureshi.
KNS Editor-in-chief prayed for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
"I pray to the Almighty to grant strength to the family to bear this irreparable loss and grant patience to them in this hour of tragedy," Aslam said. (KNS)
