Handwara, Jul 2 (KNS) : The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference (JKPC) on Thursday mounted a sharp attack on the National Conference (NC)-led government, staging a massive convention and peaceful protest here to accuse the ruling party of failing to deliver on its electoral promises while interfering in the functioning of elected representatives.
Hundreds of party workers and supporters gathered at Lone Manzil in Handwara, where senior party leaders, including Chief Spokesperson and former MLA Advocate Bashir Ahmad Dar, slammed the government over what they termed as "systematic undermining" of the people's mandate through administrative overreach and broken promises.
Addressing the protest, Dar said the convention marked the beginning of a sustained campaign to hold the government accountable, warning that if the NC continued to "renege on its promises and disregard constitutional norms," the movement would transform into an "unstoppable public force" capable of shaking the government to its core.
Party leaders alleged that the NC-led dispensation had reduced the people's mandate to a "mere formality" by obstructing constituency-level issues and blocking developmental works, causing widespread hardship to the public.

"This is not merely interference in administrative affairs; it is an interference with the democratic mandate itself," the leaders asserted, while also accusing the government of failing to honour key poll promises, including 200 units of free electricity and free LPG cylinders, which remained "confined to paper."
The convention, presided over by Dar, was also addressed by State Secretary (Organisation) Sheikh Mohammad Imran, Party Spokesperson Mohammad Amin, Political Secretary Tasaduq Yaseen, District Coordinator Abdul Ahad Kashmiri and District President Hafizullah Mir.
Describing the government's approach as "high-handed and dismissive," the JKPC leadership said attempts to interfere in the functioning of the constituency would neither deter the party nor silence the people's voice.
"Our struggle is to defend the people's mandate and secure justice for every genuine public grievance," Dar said in his concluding remarks, reaffirming the party's commitment to peaceful and democratic means of protest. (KNS)
