Jammu, Nov 26 (KNS): The city came alive today as the 42nd Junior (Boys & Girls) National Tennikoit Championship commenced at Green Field, Gandhi Nagar. The five-day event, hosted under the auspices of the Tennikoit Federation of India and J&K Tennikoit Association in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, has drawn around 550 players and officials from 23 States and UTs, making it one of the largest national sporting gatherings in Jammu in recent years.
In her inaugural address, Yasha Mudgal, IAS, Commissioner Secretary, Youth Services & Sports, J&K, who declared the championship open, highlighted J&K’s growing stature as a hub for major national sporting events. She emphasized that the government’s consistent focus on upgraded infrastructure, advanced coaching, and structured grassroots opportunities is enabling young athletes—especially those from J&K—to compete, learn, and rise at the national stage. She reiterated that sports continue to play a pivotal role in guiding youth towards discipline, fitness, and a drug-free life.

The opening ceremony also witnessed participation from senior officials and representatives of the Tennikoit Federation of India and J&K Sports Council who praised the energy and enthusiasm displayed by athletes from across the country.
