Srinagar: Congress leader Kadfeen Choudhary on Saturday termed the Jammu and Kashmir government’s response over continuing gag on high speed mobile internet in the country’s top court as shocking and ironic, stating that if the internet was not the fundamental right, the government must know that Right to freedom is a basic fundamental right enshrined in the country’s constitution.

He said that the gag imposed by the government over high-speed mobile internet has left the student fraternity in a lurch and has denied children their right to education.

Kadfeen said that amid the ongoing lockdown, the internet is the only medium by virtue of which students can avail learning facilities. “By gagging the internet, the government is denying students the very right to education.”

Kadfeen said that right to live is a basic fundamental right of every citizen of the country and at present when the internet is needed the most by the medicos and health experts, the government’s order to restrict its speed is akin to putting peoples’ lives in danger. He said that due to the outbreak of COVID19 and around 600 positive cases emerging from the region, the doctors on the ground advocate internet connection, especially in a pandemic, is like an eye to the emergency physicians. The internet blockade, said Kadfeen, is proving apocalyptic for the health experts to fight coronavirus.

The Congress leader stated further that the prolonged siege on high-speed internet goes contrary to the basic principles of Right to freedom and that the government must understand the perturbation of people and the dire need of the internet facility in Kashmir at the present time.
