IED diffused on Patha Chowk-Nowgam road in Sgr, traffic restored

Srinagar, Feb 22 (KNS): An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) spotted on Pantha-Chowk-Nowgam stretch of National Highway was diffused and traffic was resumed on the road, officials said.


An official told KNS that an IED was planted a few hundred meters away from the Nowgam Railway station near a bridge. “ Road Opening Party (RoP) team spotted a tin box early this morning after which the BDS was called to check it. It turned out an IED fitted in a tin box,” the official said.


He said traffic has been restored after halting it for some time on the stretch as a precautionary measure.“

The official added the IED may have been planted to target the security forces, especially convoys. 


Security forces are conducting are conducting frisking and have established nakas in the wake of recent militant atracks in the city that left a Dhaba owner injured and two cops dead in busy areas of the city—(KNS)
