Hold Parliamentary, Assembly polls together to avoid double expenses: J&K Congress Chief to Centre

Srinagar, Feb 29(KNS): Jammu & Kashmir Congress Party chief Vikar Rasool Wani Thursday appealed Central Government to hold Parliamentary and Assembly elections together with an aim to avoid double expenses and save public exchequer.

Wani who was addressing a press conference at party headquarters in Srinagar, appealed government at the centre to avoid losses to the public exchequer. “There is a need to hold Parliamentary and Assembly elections in J&K simultaneously in order to save public exchequer from unnecessary losses,” Wani told reporters here.
He said that the State Legislative Assembly is out of bounds for last seven years in Jammu & Kashmir and people of the region have been deprived from the democratic right to elect their representatives who will raise their voice and address their grievances.

“It is almost seven years on and people are waiting for assembly elections. BJP in these times took shield of security situation to defer Assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir. I want to ask them when security prospectus is well in place for Parliamentary polls in Jammu & Kashmir today, why it becomes weak for Assembly elections,” Wani questioned.

He appealed government at the centre to hold both Parliamentary and Assembly elections simultaneously in Jammu and Kashmir so that losses to public exchequer will be saved.

“Why government at the centre will resort to double expenses in terms of administrative and security front. Both elections should be held together,” Wani emphasized.

Wani asserted that with the new government formation at the Centre, the Congress will implement Minimum Support Price (MSP) so that farmers who are on agitation will get a sigh of relief.

“Minimum Support Price will get legal guarantee and will be implemented in the early stage of new government formation at the Centre,” he added.(KNS).
