Gujarat cops get conman Kiren Patel’s custody from Kashmir police

Srinagar, April 06 (KNS): Kiran Patel, a conman accused of fraud and impersonation, has been handed over by the Jammu and Kashmir government to the Gujarat police after a local court ordered his transfer.


"Patel was under judicial custody in Jammu & Kashmir when the Gujarat police applied for a transfer warrant, which was granted by a court in Srinagar," an official told the Kashmir News Service (KNS).

As per the official, he is accused of posing as an Additional Director of the Prime Minister’s Office and enjoying perks. "Patel's wife, Malini Patel, was also taken into custody by the Gujarat Police in connection with a cheating case registered against the couple by a former Gujarat minister’s brother, Jagdish Chavda," he said.

He further said that the couple is accused of convincing Chavda to spend on renovating his bungalow in the Shilaj area, moving in while the renovation work was on, and organising a house-warming ceremony.

"When Chavda confronted the couple, they vacated the place and promised to return the ?35 lakh that he had paid for the renovation," he said.

The official said that the couple is also accused of defrauding a group of farmers and convincing a resident to become a part of their business of renting cars to the Vadtal Swaminarayan temple. "Kiran Patel has been booked in four other cases of fraud," he added.(KNS)
