Shockers from Pulwama a wakeup call for society

Srinagar September 24 (KNS):  In a shocking pointer to the social and moral depravation that has slowly seeped in, once the enviably ideal and righteous society, Kashmir is witnessing an uptick in cases of sexual abuse against its minors.

The trend is not just disturbing but also reflects the horrifying realities where young girls are being sexually violated within the confines of their homes or educational institutions by their guardians or teachers.

The trail of two such recent incidents in Pulwama district, which sources described as a “wake-up call” for the entire society.

“In the first instance, a woman (name withheld) approached Police Station Litter along with her two minor daughters with a complaint against her husband Showkat Ahmad of Chakora, Pulwama. The complainant in her complaint levelled grave allegations against her husband claiming that her husband had been sexually assaulting her minor daughters for past some time,” official sources said quoting details about the case.

“Owing to the serious allegations, FIR No 98/2022 under Section 376 AB and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 4/6 POCSO Act has been registered. Other medico-legal formalities are being conducted and simultaneously the accused has been arrested. Further investigations into the case are in progress,” the sources said.

Referring to yet another case, sources pointed out that on September 19, a complainant (name withheld) of Kakapora approached Police Station Kakapora along with a written complaint that her two minor daughters (name withheld) were studying in a private school at Kakapora.

“They have been sexually assaulted by the school principal Bilal Ahmad. In this regard, case FIR No 69/2022 under Section 376(2)(f) and 506 of the IPC and 4/6 POCSO Act stands registered

at Police Station Kakapora. The accused has been arrested and further investigation of the case is going on,” the sources said. “While the law is taking its course, these incidents are leaving society in a quandary. This is a shared responsibility where the society will have to work in perfect synergy with the law enforcing agencies to find out reasons behind this fast-pervading degeneration and root them out.”(KNS)
