SRINAGAR, Feb 22(KNS): The Group of Concerned Citizens (GCC) J&K has hailed the Government's decision to set up Special Courts for trial of cases under the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
In a statement issued here today the GCC hoped that expeditious trial and determination of cases filed before Spl Courts will create the desired deterrence and thereby help a great deal in synergising the much-needed endeavour in combating drug abuse.
The GCC has initiated a vigorous advocacy campaign on combating Drug addiction and abuse , increasing its engagement with concerned agencies of police and civil administration, local communities and institutions.
In this connection the GCC has stressed the importance of dedicated Police--Public co-ordination at THANA level and suggested formation of District level Committees on "Combating Drug Abuse" eliciting support from other potentially relevant bodies like District Legal Services Authority , Dist Red Cross Society, Home Guards & Civil Defence , National Extension Service as well.(KNS).
