Ganderbal, July 01 (KNS) : In a significant step towards ensuring the safety and security of pilgrims for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY)-2026, Ganderbal Police, in close coordination with Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the Health Department, and other key stakeholders, conducted a comprehensive mock drill on landslide and rockfall management. The exercise was held along the strategic Barari Marg–Waterfall stretch near the Y-Junction on the Baltal route.
The mock drill simulated a high-intensity landslide and stone-shooting (rockfall) incident to rigorously evaluate the preparedness, inter-agency coordination, and emergency response capabilities of all participating forces . Rescue teams swiftly assessed the affected area before launching a synchronized search-and-rescue operation to locate and evacuate a simulated victim trapped beneath debris .

The "injured" pilgrim was promptly shifted to a safe zone, administered immediate first aid and oxygen support, and evacuated on a stretcher following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) .
This proactive exercise was aimed at strengthening coordination, improving communication and response time, and ensuring operational readiness for any natural disaster along the Yatra route . The Ganderbal Police reiterated their unwavering commitment to providing a safe, secure, and hassle-free pilgrimage experience for all devotees in 2026 . The 57-day annual pilgrimage is set to commence on July 3 and will conclude on August 28 . (KNS)
