Four Militants Killed In Shopian Gunfight, Operation Underway

Srinagar, June 07, (KNS): Four militants reportedly were killed in Reban village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday after government forces launched CASO in the area.
According to reports reached to Kashmir News Service (KNS), four militants have been killed in Reban area of Shopian district after government forces and militant faceoff took place in the area.
Earlier a joint team of Army’s 1 RR, CRPF and SOG of J&K Police carried out an anti-militancy operation after receiving tip-off about the presence of militants in the area.
Police official told KNS that that as the search party established the contact with militants hiding in the area, they in a bid to break the cordon, fired indiscriminately upon forces personnel. However the fire was retaliated, triggering an encounter, during which three militants got killed.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone Vijay Kumar confirmed the killing of three militants during the operation and said the identity of the slain militants was yet to be ascertained.
“Though three bodies of militants have been recovered so far but as per our information there is forth one who also seems to be killed as the exchange of fire has been stopped”, another police official said.
“The searches are underway to trace out the body of another militant”, police official said.
However soon after the encounter broke out in the village, authorities snap internet services across the district to maintain law and order situation. (KNS)
