Srinagar, June 18 (KNS): A first fire fighting facility was launched for Nigeen Lake by divisional commissioner Kashmir P K Pole at Nigeen Club on Saturday. 

According to statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), in the recent backdrop of gruesome fire incidents numerous heritage properties were reduced to ashes. 

The statement reads that the absence of aquatic fire tenders were deeply felt by the houseboat owners. 

Nigeen Tourist Traders Association (NTTA) chairman Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo who had organised expressed his satisfaction and happiness on the inauguration. 

He said that this initiative will go a long way in helping the houseboat owners during any untoward incident especially in case of fire.

The inauguration was attended by houseboat owners, stakeholders, NTTA members and officials of Fire & Emergency and department of Tourism.

Speaking on the occasion, P K Pole said that these fire fighting boats procured under Smart City Project will greatly help fight any mishap & the F&ES personnel deputed in Nigeen Club will be of great help in this regard. 

He said that in Dal Lake few boats have already been deployed while as in Nigeen two boats were deployed today.

Meanwhile, director tourism Dr G N Itoo said that the efforts of chairman NTTA are being lauded for his rigorous follow up in getting these fire fighting boats issued to Nigeen Lake.

He also hoped that these fire fighting boats will now create a sense of relief among the stakeholders especially houseboat owners. (KNS)
