JAMMU, July 24 (KNS): The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) of Jammu and Kashmir conducted 118 inspections of food business establishments and collected 54 enforcement samples of various food items, including paneer, honey, spices, and edible oils, for quality testing across 16 districts of the Union Territory.
Officials said the samples, which also included milk, milk products, salt, cereals, and vanaspati, were lifted from areas including Jammu, Srinagar, Samba, Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi, Udhampur, Kathua, Anantnag, Bandipora, Budgam, Ganderbal, Kupwara, Shopian, Kulgam, and Pulwama. The samples have been sent for laboratory analysis to assess their quality and safety standards.
In addition, 16 surveillance samples were collected from Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) centres to check the safety and quality of food being provided to beneficiaries. During the inspections, three improvement notices were issued to food business operators for observed deficiencies, officials added.

The FDA further informed that since July 1, 2026, a total of 1,642 inspections have been carried out across the UT. During this period, 878 enforcement samples and 223 surveillance samples have been lifted, comprising 250 samples of milk and milk products, 217 of oils and fats, 178 of cereals and cereal products, 243 of spices, along with samples of other food commodities. As many as 89 improvement notices have also been issued to food business operators during this timeframe.
The FDA has urged consumers to report any suspected cases of unsafe or adulterated food through the toll-free helpline number 104 or via email at cfsjandk.fnd@jk.gov.in.
Notably, the enforcement drive is part of the administration's ongoing efforts to ensure food safety and quality across the Union Territory. (KNS)
