Handwara, Oct 02 (KNS): Farmers of several areas of Rajwar in north Kashmir’s Handwara on Friday appealed authorities to compensate them as they could not produce crop this year due to unfavourable weather.
According to KNS, residents of Turkpora, Kahipora, Krumhoora, Ahgam, Zachaldara, Warpora, Chinjmulla, Shartigam, Wadder, Rajpora, Behnipora, Satkoji, Sultanpora and adjoining areas said that they could not produce crop due to unfavorable weather and appealed LG Manoj Sinha to provide them maximum possible help including free rations so that they can feed their families amidst Covid-19 pandemic.
A local farmer Gh Rasool Satkoji while talking to KNS said, “I don’t have any source of income and this paddy field was my only source of livelihood but unfortunately unfavorable weather didn’t support this year including shortage of water supply to the paddy fields, thereby no crop produced this season”.
He said farmers were expecting good crop this year but due to intense summer and intermittent rains and winds, everything was devastated.
“How can we feed our families as we have nothing in our stock”, he said and adding we are much worried as winters are approaching, besides the community is dependent on daily wage livelihood.
He appealed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to compensate them at an earliest so that their worries would be washed away. (KNS)
