Srinagar, Mar 14(KNS): The Director General of Police in Jammu and Kashmir, R R Swain, on Thursday said that drug trade is emerging as a major challenge in Jammu an Kashmir and It has to be addressed in a proper manner.

Highlighted the escalating challenge of narco-trade in the region, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive approach to tackle it effectively.

He likened the police strategy against drug trafficking to that employed against terrorism, aiming to disrupt the entire network, from suppliers to consumers.

Swain emphasized the importance of addressing both the supply and demand sides of the issue, noting that addicts are also victims who require support and rehabilitation.

Given J&K's status as a border state, Swain pointed out the influx of large drug consignments like heroin and brown sugar from neighboring countries, posing a significant threat similar to the situation previously seen in Punjab.
