SRINAGAR, July 2(KNS): Socio-environmental activist Touseef Bhatt has been elected president of the Rotary Club of Kashmir, the organisation said on Thursday.
In a statement, the club said Bhatt, popularly known as the "Tree Man of Kashmir", will head the local chapter of Rotary International.
Bhatt has worked for more than two decades in the fields of environmental conservation, community development, education, youth empowerment and entrepreneurship, according to the statement.
It said he has led afforestation drives and environmental awareness campaigns across Kashmir and has also mentored startups, promoted entrepreneurship and worked to improve youth employability.
Speaking after assuming office, Bhatt said he would work with fellow Rotarians to strengthen initiatives in environmental conservation, healthcare, education, youth empowerment and community development.
"I am deeply honoured by the trust reposed in me. Service to humanity has always been the guiding principle of my life," he said.
The club said the names of its treasurer and committee chairpersons would be announced at the inaugural meeting of the newly elected team.
It said the new leadership plans to undertake programmes related to environmental sustainability, health, education, youth leadership, blood donation, entrepreneurship and humanitarian service.(KNS).
