Bandipora, July 22(KNS): A pall of gloom descended over north Kashmir's Bandipora district on Wednesday after the bodies of a mother and her 14-year-old son were recovered following a tragic incident at Guzarbal Nallah, leaving the entire area in shock and mourning.

 

The deceased have been identified as Amir Khatana (14), son of late Mehboob Khatana, and his mother Gudi Begum, residents of Bonibal Tangath in Bandipora district.

 

Officials said the body of the teenage boy was recovered first from Guzarbal Nallah. A massive search operation was immediately launched by the district administration, SDRF, Police and other rescue teams to trace his missing mother. After sustained efforts, the body of Gudi Begum was also recovered.

 

Both bodies have been shifted to District Hospital Bandipora, where medico-legal and other legal formalities are being carried out. The heartbreaking incident has left residents of Bonibal Tangath and adjoining areas devastated, with scenes of grief unfolding as family members, relatives and locals wailed inconsolably over the irreparable loss.

 

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, issued a fresh public advisory urging residents to stay away from rivers, streams and other water bodies in view of the prevailing weather conditions and the possibility of a sudden rise in water levels.

 

The Deputy Commissioner appealed to people to remain vigilant, strictly follow official advisories, and immediately contact the District Control Room in case of any emergency.

 

The district administration reiterated that persistent rainfall has significantly increased the flow in several nallahs across Bandipora, making them extremely dangerous, and urged the public not to venture near water bodies until weather conditions improve.
