SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 25 (KNS): The Director Law Enforcement J&K, Iqbal Singh today convened a meeting of law enforcement officers of all the districts of Kashmir to review the overall working of the law enforcement agency.

 

Addressing the meeting, Director Law Enforcement J&K said that the prime objective of the law enforcement Agency of the department of Agriculture is to ensure the availability of quality insecticides, pesticides and fertilizers to the farmers through proper sales outlets well in time. In this direction every effort must be put in place so that the farmer’s interest could be secured. He further added.

Director Law Enforcement J&K impressed upon the officers of the law enforcement agency to remain in close coordination at divisional and district levels to maintain transparency and accountability in the system in addition to smooth distribution of quality pesticides, fertilizers and other inputs to the growers and farmers.

He asked the officers to submit weekly reports on demand, distribution, seizures and other activities. He impressed upon the concerned to strictly follow and implement different provisions of insecticides act 1968 and fertilizer control order 1985.

Iqbal asked the officers to initiate strict action according to law against the retailers if found selling fertilizers, pesticides without following the proper procedure. He said any substandard/spurious material if found should be immediately seized and the warranted action as per law against the erring parties should be initiated.

He further said any dealer or retailer if found guilty of violating different provisions of insecticides act 1968 and fertilizer control order 1985 his license should be cancelled with immediate effect.

Director Law Enforcement exhorted upon the enforcement officers to carry out special inspection drives to ensure regulation of standard and genuine supplies of insecticides, fertilizers to the farming community.

Assistant Director Law enforcement Feroz Ahmad Shapoo, Assistant Analyst Quality Control Javed Ahmad Shah, Enforcement officers of Kashmir division and other concerned officers were present in the meeting.

War against Drugs: ill-gotten assets of 02 more drug traffickers frozen/ Seized at Shopian

SHOPIAN, FEBRUARY 25: Acting tough against drug traffickers, District Magistrate Shopian today ordered seizure/ freezing of illegally acquired properties of two more drug traffickers in the district.

The action has been taken under the provisions of Chapter VA of the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotic Substances Act, 1985. As per the orders issued today, the said properties shall not be transferred or any other use undertaken on it without the permission of the District Magistrate.

The Competent Authority under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, Shopian, accorded a seal of approval to freezing of ill-gotten properties of two more drug peddlers who were given reasonable time period to prove credentials and produce the requisite documents that substantiate the property as legal. 

The frozen property includes illegally acquired buildings and land from the proceeds of narcotics trade. The properties were purchased from ill-gotten money of drug trafficking within the last six years in the name of accused persons as well as in the name of their kith and kin.

The district administration has issued notices to several persons involved in the drug trafficking in the recent past and asked all of them to disclose the source of the acquisition of the properties and has in previous week frozen assets of 05 drug traffickers in the first instance.(KNS)
