Dilapidated roads sparks protest in Shopian; locals warn hunger strike; officials say will get road next year

Shopian 24 Sep (KNS): Residents of Godipora village of Shopian in south Kashmir on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration against dilapidated conditions of Kanjiular to Gadipora road and impressed upon authorities to kindly intervene into the matter.
According to Kashmir News Service Correspondent scores of men, women and children staged the protest at Nihma shopian road and were demanding proper road connectivity to the area.
They said that the passenger vehicles are denying to ply over the road due to potholes and said people of the area are facing tough times to reach their destination.Locals while talking to KNS alleged the matter was communicated to higher officials multiple times but no action was taken on our pleas.
They said authorities have miserably failed address the due concerns of locals and have compelled them to hit the roads.
Protesters were raising slogans against the concerned department and warned if the work on said road would not be taken up in few days they will go for hunger strike and block the main road, whatever the consequences would be all responsilbity lies on the shoulders of administration.
Protesters said if work would not be started in few days they will go on hunger strike and will block the main Road and administration will be responsible for that.
Executive Engineer Roads and Buildings Shopian Mohammad Ayoub told KNS that in the current year the road is not in plan, but we will get that in next year’s plan (KNS)
