Decision to hold simultaneous J&K assembly, Lok Sabha polls will be taken after proper security review: ECI


Srinagar, Mar 13 (KNS): The Election Commissioner of India Rajeev Kumar on Wednesday said that they are equally concerned about Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections and the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls. 

Addressing a press conference in Jammu after concluding 3-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir to review poll preparedness, Rajeev Kumar, as per KNS said that they 

On delay over holding polls in J&K, he said that there was no point holding polls before 2022 when Delimitation Commission was accepted. "There was a dissonance between the Reorganization Act 2019 and Delimitation Commission, so both needed to be combined and they became one in December 2023," 

He said that in December 2023, the J&K Reorganisation Reamendment Act came into being, in which four things were done including reservation for Migrants and nomination of displaced persons in POK.

"We are fully aware of our responsibility and we are also aware that there shouldn't be any political vacuum. Whether to hold J&K assembly and Lok Sabha polls simultaneously, we will take the decision after proper review of the security situation," he said. 

He said that the Commission wants hold both polls as soon as possible. "We have taken feedback from everyone in J&K including the political parties and the officials." (KNS)
