Srinagar, Jul 7 (KNS) Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Tuesday reviewed the progress of urban infrastructure projects proposed under the Centre's Urban Challenge Fund (UCF) and directed officials to expedite the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for projects worth ?1,990.37 crore.
Chairing a high-level meeting of the Housing and Urban Development Department (H&UDD), Dulloo stressed that the proposals must be financially viable, sustainable, and aligned with Government of India guidelines to boost urban growth, tourism, and public services in the Union Territory.
"Projects should not only address immediate infrastructure needs but also generate long-term economic opportunities, strengthen urban resilience, and promote environmentally sustainable development," Dulloo told senior officers, including the Commissioner Secretary, H&UDD, and Municipal Commissioners.
The Chief Secretary directed close coordination with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) to facilitate timely appraisal and approval, while asking all stakeholders to complete documentation and DPR formalities without delay.

Commissioner Secretary Mandeep Kaur informed the meeting that J&K has shortlisted four major projects under the UCF, a new urban financing model that combines Central assistance, market-based financing, and State/UT contributions. The total estimated cost is ?1,990.37 crore, with ?495.86 crore proposed as Central assistance, ?486.12 crore as the UT share, and ?1,008.38 crore to be mobilised through market-based financing.
The shortlisted projects include the Walled City and Nigeen Lakefront Revitalisation Project, the TARANG – Tawi Area Regeneration and Green Growth Project for Jammu, the Lidder Riverfront Development Project in Anantnag, and the KRIPA – Katra Revitalisation through Integrated Pilgrimage Amenities project.
Dulloo expressed confidence that the successful implementation of these projects would make J&K's cities more vibrant, resilient, and economically competitive, while attracting private investment and improving public services. (KNS)
