Anantnag, June 29 (KNS) : Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO)/ Director Census Operations (DCO), Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Amit Sharma, IAS, Chief Principal Census Officer / Director Census Operations J&K and Ladakh conducted few random visits to towns of South Kashmir including Dooru-Verinag and Kokernag areas wherein he met several enumerators and supervisors to take first hand account of Houselisting and Housing Census (Phase-I) of ongoing Census 2027 operations in Jammu and Kashmir. He was accompanied by Census staff and Executive Officer of Dooru-Verinag MC Quazigund Dooru Verinag and his team.
During the visit, CPCO / DCO, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Amit Sharma happened to inspect the house numbering, mapping and enumeration process in different hubs of South Kashmir and find out if the guidelines as per Notifications issued from to to time have been adhered to.
Amit primarily conducted random visits to few spots in the towns of Dooru-Verinag and Kokernag to assess the progress of the ongoing Phase-I House Listing and Housing Census.
CPCO Amit Sharma also interacted with enumerators and supervisors engaged in census operations and obtained firsthand feedback regarding field-level implementation, challenges encountered and the overall progress of the exercise.
The interactions focused on ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and timely completion of the enumeration process and CPCO Amit Sharma also guided them to continue the process with same level of dedication in upcoming second and most important phase of Population Enumeration (PE).
CPCO Amit Sharma also emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards of data quality and urged the field functionaries to continue their work with diligence and dedication.

The visit of CPCO Amit Sharma formed part of the ongoing monitoring and supervision mechanism aimed at ensuring the successful conduct of the Census across the region.
Amit described Census as one of the most important national exercises, stating that reliable Census data forms the foundation for evidence-based governance, developmental planning and equitable distribution of resources. He further clarified that the data collected from residents of the nation under both phases of Census 2027 is non-shareable to any outside agency or department or individuals and non-admissible even in the Court of Law, which is clearly mentioned under Section 15 of Census Act, 1948.
He stressed the importance of maintaining the highest standards of accuracy during data collection and directed enumerators and supervisors to ensure that every entry is recorded correctly and verified thoroughly. Amit also cautioned that even minor errors or conceptual misunderstandings could affect the quality of Census data and impact long-term policy planning.
CPCO Amit Sharma passed explicit directions to Charge Officers and Supervisors to ensure regular field inspections and quality checks to maintain data integrity. He emphasized strict adherence to Census guidelines and called for comprehensive coverage of all households, including those in remote habitations, border areas and seasonal settlements. (KNS)
