Court issues notice to Ex-MLC Surinder Choidhary in defamation case

Srinagar, Aug 23 (KNS) - A notice has been issued by the Court to former MLC Surinder Choudhary in relation to a defamation case filed against him by BJP President Ravinder Raina. Raina has requested a Narco Test in the matter.

JKUT (Jammu), August 23, 2023 - Today, Ravinder Raina, President of BJP J&K, filed a damage suit amounting to Rs. 5 Crores for deliberate defamation against Surinder Kumar Choudhary, former MLC. This action follows Choudhary's tweets, media/social media interviews, and other forms of communication wherein he made baseless and defamatory allegations.

Principal District Judge Jammu, Sanjay Parihar, after hearing Advocate Arjun Singh, issued the notice to Surinder Kumar Choudhary.
In the lawsuit, Raina asserts that he has earned a reputation as a human rights activist and social worker. He dedicated himself to the betterment of the public, including working with terrorism victims across J&K. The plaintiff's journey began in 2014 when he contested and won as an MLA candidate from the Nowshera assembly segment under the Bharatiya Janta Party. He continued his representation in the State Assembly, voicing concerns for J&K. His dedication led to his appointment as President of BJP J&K in 2018. With an impeccable career, Raina has become a respected political leader with a substantial following across society.

The defendant, who contested against Raina in the 2014 Assembly polls and unsuccessfully contested, seemingly struggled to accept defeat. Seeking opportunities to defame Raina and his party, the defendant left the Peoples Democratic Party in 2022 and joined BJP with praise for its commitment to nation-building.

In July 2023, the defendant joined the National Conference after quitting BJP. Through tweets, Facebook posts, and interviews, the defendant continued his defamatory tirade against Raina. The plaintiff requested a Narco Test in the case.(KNS).
